Today, on Aug 17th, Mason City Noon Rotary was proud to present a $5,000 donation to the Mason City Police Department Captain Logan Wernet help launch a new Peer Support Program for area first responders.
First responders are routinely exposed to traumatic and critical incidents, often carrying the effects of those experiences long after the call is over. According to First H.E.L.P., more than 1,100 first responders and correctional officers died by suicide between 2020 and 2025, including law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS professionals, dispatchers, and correctional officers.
Our donation will help fund a three-day Peer Support/Critical Incident training conducted by The Peer Support Foundation. Participants will include members of the Mason City Police and Fire Departments, Clear Lake Police and Fire Departments, and Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, helping establish a new peer support network right here in North Iowa.
These are the people who show up for our communities on some of our worst days. We are proud to help make sure someone is there for them, too.

Mason City Noon Rotary was proud to present Jennifer Pommrehn with a check for $2,100 benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, in support of the "Out of the Darkness" North Iowa Walk.
Suicide prevention, and even the word "suicide" itself, can be difficult for many people to talk about. Yet having these conversations is one of the most important steps we can take. Learning to recognize the warning signs, reaching out, and speaking openly can make a life-changing difference.
If you have a family member, friend, loved one, or colleague who may be struggling in silence, let them know they are not alone. Compassion, understanding, and access to local resources can provide hope when it is needed most.
Together, we can help break the stigma, encourage meaningful conversations, and support those in our community who need it most.
On Aug 10th, please join us for our 2nd of a three part check presentation to North Iowa & Southern MN Veterans Stand Down Organization.
Today, on behalf of the Mason City Noon Rotary Club, Margo Underwood proudly presented a $2,000 donation to the North Iowa & Southern Minnesota Veterans Stand Down organization. The check was presented to Angelyn Lander and will help support the Operation Golden Hawk event on September 26.
Veterans Stand Down provides a vital opportunity for Veterans facing housing instability, food insecurity, clothing needs, financial hardship, medical concerns, or mental health challenges to connect with essential resources from communities throughout North Iowa and Southern Minnesota.
It is an honor to support an organization that serves those who have served our country. We are grateful for the work they do and look forward to the positive impact this contribution will have on local Veterans.
